Leonid Slutsky: inviting Russia, PACE took a constructive position

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe took a constructive position and followed the path of full implementation of the statement of the committee of foreign ministers on the equality of all delegations, Leonid Slutsky, head of the international committee of the State Duma, told RIA Novosti on the voting results.

On Tuesday night, PACE adopted a resolution inviting the Russian delegation to participate in the June session, although the possibility of challenging the delegations’ powers remains. The resolution also states that the rights of members of delegations to vote, to speak and to be represented are not subject to sanctions.

“The ban on imposing sanctions on their right to vote, speak and be represented in the assembly is what the Russian side has been striving for for four long years,” said Slutsky.

“The adopted amendments to the regulations protect the fundamental rights of all national delegations, and not only open the way for Russia to PACE, as our Ukrainian colleagues interpret it,” the deputy added.
