Leonid Slutsky stated the need to audit international agreements

The Foreign Affairs Committee is ready, as a matter of priority, to submit to the State Duma a bill to revoke a statement made upon ratification of the additional protocol to the Geneva Conventions, its head Leonid Slutsky said. He considers it necessary to conduct an audit of all international agreements, the press service of the deputy said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a bill to withdraw the statement that was made upon ratification of the Additional Protocol to the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The document established an international commission to investigate alleged violations of humanitarian law in armed conflict.

Slutsky said that the Committee on Foreign Affairs is ready, as a matter of priority, to submit an appropriate document to the State Duma for consideration. It is noted that they can discuss in the near future.

“The decision is absolutely balanced and justified. I have no doubt that the committee will support the draft law. The key here is the actual inaction of the commission, as well as, and this is important, the danger of its politicization with the simultaneous hypothetical possibility of using it to escalate the situation in the international arena, ”said Slutsky.

He also noted that it would be useful to conduct an audit of international agreements and treaties signed by Russia in terms of compliance with the foreign policy of the Russian Federation in the current very difficult situation in the world.
