Leonid Slutsky: “Trump’s call to Putin and the proposed assistance in fighting fires in Siberia increases the chances of normalizing relations”

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:

“Trump’s call to Putin and the proposed assistance in fighting fires in Siberia indicate that the previous statements by the American leader about his desire to“ get along ”are not a bluff. Trump’s noble gesture really increases the chances of normalizing Russian-American relations.

Obviously, the US president feels more freedom of action in the Russian direction against the backdrop of a changing domestic political situation. The results of the discussion of Mueller’s report and the court’s refusal to consider the lawsuit of the NKDP (National Committee of the Democratic Party) about the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 elections, according to Trump himself, “end the witch hunt.”

But for now, I remain in the position of cautious optimism. Only time will tell how much the words of the American president will correspond to deeds.

I am still convinced that the two largest nuclear powers on the planet cannot have a level of interaction below the zero mark. The Russian-American dialogue must be brought to a constructive and working format. ”
