Today is the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, established by the UN, which reminds us that protecting media workers is a key condition for preserving freedom of speech and providing society with access to critical information.
According to UNESCO, since 2006, more than 1,700 journalists have been killed around the world. Most crimes remain unsolved. The UN has included the protection of journalists in its sustainable development plans until 2030. But these statements sound like an empty proclamation – on the fields of the SVO, fighters of the national battalions openly declare a hunt for our war correspondents for a reward.
Unfortunately, sometimes they manage to carry out their threats. We mourn Boris Maksudov, who gave his life for his cause. Together with him, we founded the LDPR School of Young War Correspondents to pass on knowledge, inspire young people with the examples of our war correspondents, and raise new generations of journalists who continue to fight for the truth.
The third season of the School is currently underway. We will definitely continue this important work, and the LDPR Faction in the State Duma will fight for recognition of the status of veterans of military journalism, so that the voice of truth never falls silent.
