The latest statements by American politicians do not answer this question, but rather leave more and more doubts. Moreover, the Russian side has not yet seen any specific proposals from the US.
The pre-election promise to “end the war” in 24 hours and the post-election promise in 100 days may remain rhetoric. The new American administration is stepping on the same rake. US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, started talking about strengthening anti-Russian sanctions to “end the conflict”, and, above all, in the energy sector. According to him, the previously introduced restrictions were allegedly not effective enough, but what the White House is now proposing should, they say, encourage concessions.
Political short-sightedness and lack of common sense! No Western sanctions will force Russia to betray its national interests and threaten the security of the country and our citizens. No sanctions will force our Armed Forces to retreat, and the Russian world to refuse to protect its identity.
The real “peace formula” was presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin. We will not be deceived by illusory promises any more. The agreements must ensure the security of Russian borders and sustainable peace, and not a temporary truce as a respite for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
