Rutte continues to justify the existence of NATO as such by declaring the Russian threat. The North Atlantic bloc has long since become a rudiment of the Cold War and has turned from defensive (as originally declared) into offensive. And it was NATO’s “open door” policy that led to the Ukrainian crisis. Therefore, it is not Russia that poses a threat to NATO, but the opposite. The endless waves of the Alliance’s expansion to the Russian borders have become a direct threat to peace, stability and security. And not only to our country.
As for doubts about the participation of NATO missions in Ukraine – Rutte is putting a good face on a bad game. The Alliance has long been effectively involved in the conflict. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are firing NATO weapons under the patronage of NATO generals. But the open appearance of such a mission in the Ukrainian conflict zone would be an official declaration of military confrontation with Russia with the prospect of transition to World War III.
