The conversation between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump marked the culmination of a round of new diplomatic contacts between Moscow and Washington. The leaders of the two leading world powers took another step not only toward resolving the Ukrainian conflict but also toward strengthening global security overall.

Important: The Russian President presented an objective analysis of what is happening on the battlefields of the special military operation, specifically highlighting what the Americans could realistically do to bring the hostilities to a swift end. Vladimir Putin refuted the European war party’s speculation about the threat of a Russian attack on NATO countries, completely refuting the myths of Russophobic propaganda used to justify support for the neo-Nazi Kyiv regime.

In this regard, Zelenskyy’s shift in rhetoric toward “willingness to compromise” may be indicative. The Ukrainian leader has never been an independent geopolitical figure. However, it is not only US influence that is at work here, but, to a much greater extent, the successful military campaign of the Russian army.

Overall, the very fact of another phone call and its length suggests that the current US administration (unlike Biden’s team) fully understands the need for dialogue with the Russian side and the restoration of a mutually respectful level of interaction. This gives rise to cautious optimism for overall normalization.
