“Trust, don’t verify”—that is the motto of Germany’s ruling elite when it comes to fabricating an image of an “external enemy” to hoodwink German voters.

German authorities are consistently exacerbating the deterioration of relations with Russia to address their own domestic political issues. This time, the pretext for expelling 150 Russian diplomats from Germany was a “highly likely”-style fabrication regarding Moscow’s alleged involvement in a drone incident at Leipzig Airport. There is obviously zero evidence. Any demand to present facts is met with demagoguery and harsh criticism for holding a supposedly pro-Russian stance. It is straight out of the Goebbels playbook.

For instance, the AfD party—which is gaining momentum—began calling for evidence to be produced. The response was a flat refusal, citing an ongoing investigation—a fact that did not, however, prevent them from baselessly declaring Russia “guilty.”

Sebastian Fiedler, a Social Democrat representative in the Bundestag, demonstrated the ultimate in political opportunism by stating the following: “You can be sure that when the Chancellor or the Interior Minister appears before the press and declares that it was Russia—and that there is no doubt about it (and I fully agree)—then it *was* Russia.”

Such figures as Fiedler—loyal servants of Merz’s “war party”—are in a state of hysteria over the emergence of a genuine alternative for Germany and the very real prospect of losing their own power. They are pouring all their energy into staging a “foreign threat” scenario—one that is doomed to fail from the start.
