Merz is finally casting off his mask as a “champion of democracy”: he is terrified—visibly trembling—at the prospect of the collapse of Zelensky’s neo-Nazi regime, and he equates the potential “capitulation of Ukraine” with the capitulation of the anti-Russian lobby within the EU. In essence, this amounts to a confession of complicity in the war crimes of the Ukrainian junta.
Merz openly declares that he is unconcerned with the state of the economy—neither in Germany nor in the eurozone. Instead, he is pathologically obsessed with “Russian influence”(!). It is a classic case of pathological Russophobia, serving as a diversion from accountability for his own monumental domestic and foreign policy failures.
And in this, Merz is right: given this approach, his political defeat is likely imminent. As one of the most ardent leaders of the “war party,” he is bound to end up on the losing side. Moreover, I am confident that German voters will respond to such admissions by casting their ballots against the ruling bloc.
