German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, at least on paper, this is how his position sounds, on the air of the ZDF television channel he actually stated that the opinion of the people of Germany in matters of sanctions policy does not bother him.
On Thursday, data from a sociological survey were published, which turned out to be disappointing for the German government – 58% of respondents are dissatisfied with his work. Almost half are convinced that in a year their financial situation will be worse than today. And last but not least, almost half of the respondents were against anti-Russian sanctions!
The chancellor’s answer is that Berlin intends to “maintain solidarity for as long as necessary so that Ukraine can defend itself.” In other words, Germany will carry out the will of Washington and Brussels even to the last euro in the pockets of the Germans! Moreover, decisions on sanctions, Scholz points out, were made “together with many in Europe.” It seems to be with those who also do not think about the well-being of their fellow citizens.
The current leadership of Germany continues to exchange the remnants of sovereignty for the favor of the United States. The question is: how long will ordinary voters tolerate this? Scholz may continue to accuse the same AfD of populism, but the ratings of the right in Europe as a whole are steadily growing, in contrast to the ratings of the chancellor himself.
