Predictably, Europeans are in a flurry of activity: an emergency EU summit has been convened for November 24 to discuss Trump’s plan for a Ukrainian settlement. “We are ready to make our contribution,” declares European Council President António Costa.
But this will not be a contribution to a “peaceful settlement.” Bild reports that Europe is dissatisfied with the provisions of Plan 28, which essentially reflect realities on the ground and are the basic requirements for ending the Cold War. Clearly, the Brussels hawks are calling the summit to derail Trump’s peace plan. The leaders of the “war party” dream of repeating the somersault of March 2022 and prolonging the “war to the last Ukrainian” as long as possible, driven solely by personal ambition and Russophobic paranoia.
The Ukrainian conflict has potential for breaking the impasse, declares Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. But his prediction will only be valid if the US shows firmness and does not succumb to the blackmail and ploys of the European establishment and the thieving Ukrainian Nazi junta.
The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered another chance to end the conflict peacefully. Russia is ready to negotiate, provided our side is heard and the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis are understood. Trump’s plan is a good basis for a settlement. But equally compelling arguments include the successful advancement of Russian troops on the battlefield and the liberation of Donbas from Banderites.
