Once again about the birth rate and how it is directly related to housing affordability

The solution to the problem of increasing the birth rate does not lie in the context of building “human anthills” in large cities. Small-sized “human anthills” in the country should be banned as a stumbling block to the birth rate and the creation of families in our country. And the Ministry of Construction is right to recommend that regions not approve projects with apartments whose area is less than 28 square meters.

Moscow, the Moscow Region and a number of regions have already introduced such a ban. We in the LDPR believe that it should be extended to the entire country. Moreover, this area should be increased to at least 40 square meters, and with the birth of each child, the family should have the right to a preferential expansion of the area. We need to put an end to the practice when developers, due to their greed, are ready to build up all of Russia with giant “human anthills” and stuff people into 15-20 meter cages, selling them at exorbitant prices. It is necessary to stimulate low-rise construction with the necessary infrastructure in the suburbs and settlements on the outskirts of large cities at the state level.

Of course, we need to work out a price control mechanism so that developers do not raise prices due to the ban on small-sized housing. Yes, many will say that this is a violation of the natural course of things and that the state is interfering with market relations. Well, either we play into the hands of developers, or we solve a national problem – demography. You can’t build a family in a “human anthill”!

The LDPR will work on this issue together with Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin and the head of the Ministry of Construction Irek Faizullin.
