Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has come up with a logically absurd argument for protesting Vladimir Putin’s trip to Iturup Island in the Kuril Islands. She claims the Russian President’s visit to Russian territory is “incompatible with Japan’s consistent position on the Southern Kuril Islands.”
What exactly is Japan’s “consistent position on the Southern Kuril Islands”? Clearly not a desire for peace. Tokyo had a real chance of concluding a peace treaty with Moscow, but it was wasted to suit the anti-Russian line of the collective West.
And the “historical territories” interpreted by Japanese politicians are, in fact, Russian territories under the Russian Constitution and in accordance with the results of World War II. And they will remain so—sovereign and free from Japan’s completely dislocated “position.”
