Leonid Slutsky: Borrell said that the EU regrets the introduction of counter-sanctions by Russia, namely the ban on the entry of a number of EU citizens

Borrell said that the European Union regrets the introduction of counter-sanctions by Russia, namely the ban on the entry of a number of citizens of the EU countries. Moreover, he argues that, unlike Russian retaliatory measures, the EU sanctions are introduced, they say, “correctly”, “based on clear criteria and provide for legal challenges.”

The criterion for imposing sanctions against Russia has always been the same – containment for the sake of Euro-Atlantic solidarity. But the result turned out to be different – the deterioration of the life of Europeans, the complete degradation of the EU-RF dialogue, and, on the contrary, the consolidation of Russian society.

Any regrets about Russian counter-sanctions under such conditions is either hypocrisy or naivety. Any action gives rise to a reaction – Newton’s third law. And one more regularity against this background for the EU is the loss of economic sovereignty by European countries in favor of the interests of the United States. Maybe it’s time to stop following in the wake of Washington?
