Leonid Slutsky: “Eurovision has finally turned into a branch of the political booth of Brussels”

How many times have we been told that the contest is “out of politics”? And the last of them very accurately dotted all the “e” and showed that Eurovision was and is a tool for promoting far from “cultural values”, but all the same European double standards and one-sided approaches.

Judge for yourself. On May 14, in Turin, Italy, the final of the competition took place, in which the first place was awarded to the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra. They scored 631 points. Of these 631 points: 439 are the votes of the audience, and only 192 are points from the National Jury of different countries. It is noteworthy that the highest score (12) was given to Ukraine by the jury only from five Eastern European states: Poland, Moldova, Latvia, Romania and Lithuania.

At the same time, long before the final of the competition, all the media predicted just such a result, given the geopolitical situation. The so-called “victory” was not prevented even by such a direct violation of the rules of the competition as the appeals of the Ukrainian group from the stage “Help Mariupol, help Azovstal”, because political demarches at the competition are strictly prohibited. The organizers cleverly called it a “humanitarian gesture.”

Completely “non-political” congratulations followed. From the “big fans” of youth music – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU President Charles Michel and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In general, a whole parade of “geopolitical players”.

The question now is: do you regret that Russia has ceased to be a participant in this coven? Personally, I never.”
