Leonid Slutsky: IAEA calls for a ceasefire should be directed strictly towards Kyiv

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Leonid Slutsky said that the IAEA report on the results of the visit to the Zaporozhye NPP lacks targeting, since calls to stop shelling the station should be directed strictly towards Kyiv.

“The IAEA has published a report on the Zaporozhye NPP, which calls for an end to the shelling and the creation of a protective zone around the plant. Very correct words, especially about shelling. I fully share these provisions of the report,” the parliamentarian wrote on his Telegram channel on Tuesday. “But the document is clearly not enough targeting. All calls for a ceasefire should be directed strictly towards Kyiv. Vague language only spurs the junta to further nuclear blackmail.”

Slutsky stressed that the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) did not stop either before or after the visit of the mission headed by the organization’s director general Rafael Grossi. According to him, it is the Armed Forces of Ukraine that creates the threat of a new nuclear catastrophe. “The Western masters of [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky must finally realize the full measure of their responsibility for inciting and supplying weapons to the Kyiv terrorist regime,” he said.

“And one more thing: the substitution of concepts should not be allowed. The Russian military should control the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. This is still a guarantee of nuclear security in the region,” the politician stressed.

Earlier Tuesday, the IAEA published a report following a visit to the station, which proposes to demilitarize it and create a “safe zone” around it.
