Leonid Slutsky: NATO Secretary General’s statement that Russia’s initiative to impose a moratorium on the deployment of the INF Treaty in Europe “does not deserve confidence” is clearly aimed at increasing tensions “

Chairman of the International Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky:

“The statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Russia’s initiative to impose a moratorium on the deployment of INF in Europe“ is not credible ”is clearly aimed at increasing tensions and does not exactly demonstrate a willingness to dialogue. Ultimately, such a position is fraught with a new missile crisis on our common European continent.

Moscow, of its own free will, back in 2019 assumed the obligation to comply with such a moratorium immediately after the collapse of the INF Treaty, which, it is high time to admit, occurred as a result of great efforts by the previous US administration. Endless attempts to shift the responsibility to Russia for the termination of the treaty only aggravate the situation and do not contribute to the development of constructive solutions.

Don’t play with fire. Today, the general context is far from being the most favorable from the point of view of arms control, maintaining strategic stability and security in the world.”
