“Now the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, is warning the collective West not to let Russia and China“ take control of the situation ”in Afghanistan. At an unscheduled meeting of the European Parliament’s foreign affairs and development committees, he said that “the EU should not allow Russia and China to sponsor Kabul.”
What the EU should definitely not do is continue to indulge the adventurism and selfishness of the United States, which are the reason for today’s difficult situation in Afghanistan. Over the 20 years of its presence in this country, the NATO coalition led by the United States has failed to weaken the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), or sufficiently strengthen the Afghan armed forces, or achieve a stable political settlement. All this time, Washington was conducting another geopolitical experiment, and playing very dangerous games with terrorists. We are seeing the result right now – Kabul was surrendered without a fight.
Any statements about the need to counter Russia and China, which allegedly are already dividing Afghanistan, are nothing more than an attempt to divert attention from the cruel failure of Western policy in the Afghan direction. Russia has undoubtedly been present and will continue to be present in this region due to political and geographic factors. But all that the world community should be concerned about at the moment is general security, stabilization in Afghanistan and the prevention of a new humanitarian catastrophe, which is already beginning to unfold before our eyes. And it is certainly not the time now to engage in redrawing the political map of the world. “
