Speaker of the Mejlis of Iran Mohammad Bager Galibaf arrived in Moscow at the invitation of the Chairman of the State Duma. Productive negotiations were held today with the heads of both chambers of the Federal Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin and Valentina Matvienko, and meetings are also expected at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
The fact that Galibaf is making his first foreign visit to Russia speaks of the strategic level of the Russian-Iranian partnership and the importance of the parliamentary dimension for its development.
For our part, we are ready to support and build up the inter-parliamentary dialogue. We plan to hold a joint meeting of the foreign policy committees of the State Duma and the Mejlis in March, where we will discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, including in the fight against COVID-19, further prospects for the JCPOA – the “Iranian nuclear deal”, the impact of the arrival of the new US administration on changing the situation in the region in general, as well as interaction in the economic and energy spheres.
