Leonid Slutsky: Sanctions against the Russian Federation boomerang on those who support them

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky pointed out that Tokyo’s support for the West’s Russophobic policy primarily affected Japan itself. Parliamentarian commented on Russia’s withdrawal from the agreement on the Kuriles

Russia terminated the agreement with Japan on facilitated visits to the Kuriles by Japanese citizens – former residents of these islands, and also withdrew from the agreement on the procedure for mutual trips. This measure was forced, but very sensitive for Tokyo, said Leonid Slutsky. The LDPR leader specified that it was adopted in response to the Japanese government’s support for the Russophobic policy of the West.

The agreement between Moscow and Tokyo was concluded by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese politician Shinzo Abe, who was then Prime Minister of Japan. The document, Leonid Slutsky recalled, was a symbol of goodwill and another step towards the conclusion of a peace treaty.

‒ And all this was destroyed by Japan’s solidarity with the G7 countries. Sanctions always boomerang. This time he flew back to the Japanese side, – summed up the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party.
