Leonid Slutsky: “Sergei Lavrov said that after the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, the United States should make a conclusion about the inadmissibility of interference in the affairs of other states”

Leonid Slutsky: “Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today at a press conference in Vienna that the United States, after the withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan, should conclude that interference in the affairs of other states is inadmissible. And there are plenty of examples of how the Americans tried to “climb with their charter into a strange monastery”. This is Iraq, and Syria, and Libya.

After the rapid withdrawal of the United States from Afghanistan, the entire region faced the threat of terrorist infiltration into neighboring countries. According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, this situation should become the central theme at the upcoming CSTO and SCO summits in Dushanbe in September. At the same time, NATO, whose forces were in Afghanistan for 20 years and have not been able to achieve a sustainable settlement, apparently does not seek to cooperate with the CSTO, although such joint work would be extremely useful in terms of combating terrorism and preventing a new humanitarian and migration crisis. But politics once again prevailed over common sense.

The correctness of Minister Lavrov is indirectly confirmed by the attempt made by the G7 countries to develop a further action plan. According to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the G7 was able to agree on a common approach to evacuating Afghanistan. The Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) is required to provide a corridor to leave. In addition, a certain roadmap for interaction with the Taliban has been agreed. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, for her part, added that it was not possible to agree on the timing of the evacuation after August 31. The G7 called on any new Afghan government in advance to comply with international obligations, fight terrorism, and respect human rights. Well, appeals to all good things have never been superfluous.

Only, unfortunately, so far this is the only thing that remains to be done by the collective West, which is now responsible for what is happening in the region.”
