Leonid Slutsky: “The Council of the Duma adopted a statement” In connection with the decision of the ECHR demanding the recognition of same-sex marriages in the Russian Federation “

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:

“The Council of the Duma today adopted a statement“ In connection with the decision of the European Court of Human Rights demanding the recognition of same-sex marriages in the Russian Federation ”, in which it condemned and declared immoral such a verdict.
Representatives of all political factions of the State Duma were unanimous in their assessment of the ECHR decision: Russia will not comply with the requirements of interstate bodies that directly contradict its Constitution (Articles 72 and 79). Any attempts to “come with their own charter to a strange monastery” will be interpreted as interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.

The Strasbourg court, in my opinion, made a shameless attempt to impose values alien to us, and in spite of the national legislation and traditions of the peoples of Russia. The ECHR has often made ambiguous decisions in relation to Russia before, but this has never happened before. This is a politicized and provocative step aimed at deforming the image of Russia in Europe and in the world.

And here one cannot but recall the quote from the Russian classic Griboyedov: “Who are the judges?” Let me remind you that the current composition of the European Court was formed mainly during the absence of Russia in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. One more factor should also be noted. In the winter of 2020, the French magazine Valere Actuel published an investigation by the lawyer Gregor Puppenk, who concluded that a number of judges sitting at the ECHR in the past were employees of either the Soros Open Society Foundation or one of its affiliated nongovernmental organizations … If so, then the impartiality of such “servants of Themis” raises very big questions.”
