By approving this, if I may say so, legislative act, Ukrainian deputies in one fell swoop violated a number of their international obligations, including the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Framework Convention of the Council of Europe on the protection of national minorities.
The Ukrainian authorities, unfortunately, in spite of everything, continue to promote the nationalist ideology at the legislative level. By such steps Kiev itself alienates the republics of Donbass and makes it extremely difficult for the internal Ukrainian settlement.
We very much hope that the Parliamentary Assembly will give its due assessment. Among the signatories of the motion at the moment are not only Russian parliamentarians, there are representatives of Serbia, Armenia, Hungary, Moldova. So far there are 28 people with 20 signatures required for acceptance for consideration.”
