Leonid Slutsky: “The demolition of the monument to Marshal Ivan Konev in Prague and the subsequent refusal to pass it to Russia is a disgusting story”

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:

“The demolition of the monument to Marshal Ivan Konev in Prague and the subsequent refusal to hand it over to Russia is a disgusting story, especially given the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascism. This act of vandalism and mockery is in violation of all international obligations of the Czech Republic. And here, references to the municipal property of Prague-6, in my opinion, are politically incorrect.

I hope that the guilty will be held justly responsible because their actions are sacrilegious and immoral. The Investigative Committee of Russia has already opened a criminal case under the recently adopted law on punishment for the destruction or damage of military graves and monuments.

“We also continue to hope for the goodwill and responsible attitude of the official Czech authorities in transferring the demolished monument to Marshal Konev on the Russian side.”
