Leonid Slutsky: “The position of the EU permanent representatives on the extension of anti-Russian sanctions only confirms the unreadiness of the European Union as a structure for dialogue with Russia”

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs:

“The position of the EU permanent representatives on the permanent extension of anti-Russian sanctions only confirms the assessments of the EU’s unpreparedness as a structure for dialogue with Russia. Brussels, most likely, continues to fulfill Washington’s directives to the detriment of both its own economic interests and the interests of stability and security on our common European continent.

The sanctions pressure on Russia has no result and cannot force to change either the foreign course or the existing borders. And many politicians in European countries are aware of this fact. However, political inertia does not allow the EU to recognize reality and reach a constructive level of relations with Russia. We can only regret and have to support the response. “
