Leonid Slutsky: “The results of the presidential campaign in France did not bring sensations”

The current head of state, Emmanuel Macron, is expected to be re-elected in the second round. His rival, the leader of the “National Association” Marine Le Pen has already congratulated him on his victory.

According to the results of counting 100% of the ballots, Macron won 58.5% of the vote, Le Pen – 41.5%. However, the leader of the right increased her result record compared to the last elections in 2017 (then she received 33.94% of the vote) and herself recognized it as “historic”.

And whatever you say, but numbers are a stubborn thing. Macron’s victory is indeed not as convincing as last time. Not to mention the fact that 28% of the French simply did not come to the polling stations. The decline in support for the current government occurred, including through the votes of those who are tired of blind obedience to Washington, who are tired of sacrificing their interests in the name of the notorious Euro-Atlantic solidarity and paying for the foreign policy adventures of the collective West from their own pockets. The same unprecedented anti-Russian sanctions that Le Pen has always opposed, for ordinary voters, turned into an increase in food and energy prices. And Macron was told about this right to his face. It is not surprising that after the announcement of the election results, protests in major French cities did not take long.

Le Pen this time managed to accumulate an electorate not only of Eurosceptics and ultra-rightists. And her position against the imposed Russophobic hysteria once again speaks of the real mood in European society.

And it is difficult to deny the fact that the “National Rally” with each election campaign in the Fifth Republic is gaining more and more supporters. We will follow with interest the elections to the National Assembly of France in June.
