Leonid Slutsky: “The seventh convocation of the State Duma is going down in history. It was a difficult Duma five-year plan for all of us, but for parliamentary diplomacy, it can be called quite successful.”

The format of the Moscow Inter-Parliamentary Forum was created, which was held twice and became comparable in terms of the number of participants with the IPU. Unfortunately, the pandemic did not allow organizing the forum in 2020 and 2021, but I have no doubt about its “viability”. I am confident that as soon as the epidemiological situation normalizes, Moscow will again become the capital of world parliamentarism. And, of course, preserving this format will become one of the priority tasks for the future deputy corps.

Four times for the convocation in various states, the Meeting of Speakers of the Parliaments of Eurasia was convened. This platform has also proved its effectiveness in terms of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation and promoting a constructive agenda. The meeting is growing, constantly expanding its membership (already 60 countries!) And must definitely continue its work with the new composition of the State Duma.

The deputies took an active part in the activities of inter-parliamentary organizations, primarily the IPU and the OSCE PA. It was not always easy, they had to break through the veil of Russophobia, defending the interests of the country and the historical truth. This also happened in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where the Russian delegation under the leadership of Pyotr Olegovich Tolstoy returned at the equator of the convocation. And here is the main principle for me – the more of us among them, the less of them among us! We must communicate our position directly, conduct a dialogue with our European colleagues, and explain our point of view. And then, perhaps, we will be able to speak the same language and hear each other, and not play with a damaged phone through the “networks” of anti-Russian propaganda.

We have managed to do a lot, but there is still more for the future. COVID-19, in particular, did not allow the International Affairs Committee to hold joint field meetings with the foreign policy commissions of the parliaments of African countries, Latin America, the Gulf region and a number of European states. But, I hope, all these plans will definitely be implemented.
