Leonid Slutsky: “The State Duma held talks with a delegation of the House of Representatives (Parliament) of Libya, headed by Speaker Agila Saleh”

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs:

“The visit to Moscow of the delegation of the House of Representatives (Parliament) of Libya, headed by Speaker Agila Saleh, is coming to an end. During the talks in the State Duma today, November 25, the problems of Libyan settlement and the prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation were touched upon.

We expressed deep respect to Mr. Agila Saleh for his efforts in resolving the intra-Libyan crisis by bringing the positions of the warring parties closer together, and also emphasized the need for a complete end to the bloodshed in the country and the lack of alternatives to political dialogue.

We support the elected Parliament of Libya and are ready in the parliamentary plane to provide assistance in the post-conflict normalization of the situation, including in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. State Duma deputies reaffirm their commitment to the decisions of the Berlin Conference on Libya and UN resolution 2510 (2020), which approves its results.

The parliamentarians of Russia and Libya also stressed their interest in the resumption of broad bilateral cooperation, including through mutual inter-parliamentary exchanges.”
