Leonid Slutsky: “The talks in Geneva between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, can be called the first step towards dialogue”

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky:

“The talks in Geneva between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden can be called the first step towards dialogue. It was a constructive conversation on issues where constructive interaction between Moscow and Washington is possible. Without any pressure and without going beyond the “red lines”, as Vladimir Putin said.

One of the main topics is the launch of negotiations on strategic stability and cybersecurity, a full-fledged restoration of diplomatic relations with the return of the ambassadors of both countries to the capitals, and the fight against international terrorism.

We are not yet talking about “Reset 2.0”, but Russian-American relations need to get out of the state of “overload”. We hope that we will be able to make headway towards restoring dialogue in all spheres, including through parliamentary diplomacy. The resumption of the Duma-Congress format remains one of the tasks.
However, we are ready for an exclusively equal and mutually respectful relationship.”
