Leonid Slutsky: “The US Congress continues to live in its own reality. The House of Representatives passed a bill on financing the State Department, providing for a ban on the US administration on non-application of sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 project.
The decision is still inconclusive, the bill must still pass the Senate. It will be sent to President Joe Biden for signature only if the senators do not amend it. It is possible that the White House, though Democratic lawmakers, will try to block the amendment, which in its essence runs counter to the agreement between Washington and Berlin on Nord Stream 2. This is a serious challenge for Biden. The new American administration will have to really prove that the United States can follow its commitments to its European partners.
As for the American congressmen, their actions with regard to Nord Stream 2 are primarily focused on the domestic consumer. And do not forget about the lobbyists for the supply of American liquefied gas to Europe. Another example of unfair competition. However, all these “ritual dances” are unlikely to be able to influence the launch of the SP-2.”
