Leonid Slutsky: “The Washington Post reported that the United States may not allow foreigners vaccinated with Sputnik V from November to enter the country.

The publication writes that if additional “cordon” measures are introduced, foreign citizens wishing to enter the United States will have to be vaccinated with drugs approved by either the American authorities or the World Health Organization.

Thus, the United States will openly follow the path of “vaccine discrimination”. There are exactly zero reasons for such decisions. The effectiveness and safety of the Sputnik V vaccine has been proven not only by specialists, but also by its practical application.

However, we see very clear attempts to “push” Sputnik-V, to prevent the Russian vaccine from getting approval at the WHO level. Speculation continues on political grounds as well. The latest example is the restriction of travel around Strasbourg for members of the Russian delegation at the PACE autumn session that opened today.

The French authorities agreed to a discriminatory division of national delegations into so-called “zones”. The Russian delegation ended up in the “red zone” only because Sputnik-V vaccinations are not recognized at the level of European regulators. Our deputies and senators were allowed to move strictly along the route airport-hotel-Palais des Europe. This is contrary to the agreements under the Council of Europe and the principle of equality of all member states of the organization.

In such conditions, we preferred to participate in the autumn session remotely. Nobody went to Strasbourg. I believe – and stressed this today in his speech at the Assembly – that the Council of Europe should raise before Paris the question of preventing such situations in the future. The “vaccine curtain” should not fall, both in the space of the most widespread European organization, and in the world in general. “
