Leonid Slutsky: Ursula von der Leyen is seriously suggesting that ordinary Europeans take on the consequences of thoughtless and illegal anti-Russian sanctions

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is seriously suggesting that ordinary Europeans take on the consequences of thoughtless and illegal anti-Russian sanctions. Like, it is enough to reduce the temperature in the heating batteries by two degrees on average in Europe to replace all supplies via Nord Stream.

According to the logic of the head of the EC, in order to contain Russia, everyone should now, as in that proverb, “freeze their ears”. To spite who? The Europeans themselves were hardly asked if they were ready to go for it or not. As well as whether they are willing to tolerate inflation, rising prices and other charms of the policy of Euro-Atlantic solidarity.

After such statements and attempts by officials in Brussels to decide for the whole of Europe, one should not be surprised at the strengthening of the positions of eurosceptics and supporters of national sovereignty. An example of this was last Sunday’s parliamentary elections in France, where the “National Rally” set a new record for the number of mandates received.

In conclusion, I can’t help but recall here the very recent words of Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech at SPIEF: “The European Union has completely lost its political sovereignty, and its bureaucratic elites are dancing to someone else’s tune, accepting everything they are told from above, causing harm own population and own economy. And who is right again?
