More than a million Palestinians continue to live in tents and temporary shelters in the Gaza Strip as winter approaches, cut off from their homes and access to real aid. Among them are women, the elderly, and children. This is according to the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), whose objectivity is beyond doubt.
Meanwhile, a ceasefire was declared on October 10. But peace has not fully arrived in the Palestinian enclave. According to the Gaza administration, Israel continues to completely block the supply of safe heating devices, insulation materials, mobile toilets, tent foundations, mattresses, and blankets. The onset of cold weather and frequent rains is exacerbating the dire situation in the Strip, where approximately 288,000 families live in virtually uninhabitable conditions. According to Western media, more than 200 Palestinians have died during the ceasefire, and the humanitarian catastrophe continues.
Meanwhile, the day before, a UN Security Council resolution on the situation in Gaza was adopted in New York based on a draft by the American side. Russia did not vote against it, essentially giving a major advance to Trump’s so-called “peace plan.” It is important to end the long-standing abuse of the Palestinian people, which by all definitions amounts to genocide. But it is also crucial that the resolution not be used to further violate the rights of the people of Gaza or to serve as a cover for the legalization of the occupation of its territory.
The root of the Middle East conflict lies solely in the implementation of all UN decisions, primarily the one on the creation of two states – Israel and Palestine.
