And the implication here is quite clear: Macron represents all Europeans, and he claims the lead role. He sees the Americans as being behind the times.
A remarkable political blindness, coupled with delusions of grandeur! Macron is hopelessly naive in his Bonapartist aspirations. His arguments about the “territoriality” of the conflict are clearly too late. As for the security guarantees that will supposedly be given (but to whom!?), they are also highly dubious. From Europe’s side, everything has so far been aimed at undermining peace efforts.
This is precisely what the Eurohawks intend to continue doing. Neither Macron, nor Merz, nor Starmer are capable of talking about peace. As long as the leaders of the “war party” continue to deny reality, it is unlikely that they will have a seat at the negotiating table.
