Orban is sure: “There is no Ukraine without Western money, and it is time to “throw the anti-Russian sanctions out the window””

The Hungarian Prime Minister makes such statements three days before Trump’s inauguration and his return to the White House, which he calls a “new era”.

Is Orban’s enthusiasm justified? The sanctions have truly become an atavism, having not achieved their goal one iota. The Westerners have failed to influence Russia’s position or tear our economy “to shreds”. The effect is rather the opposite. We have only become stronger, having gone through import substitution processes, developing and strengthening relations with the countries of the Global South. And Europe, having severed economic ties to please the United States and ostentatiously refusing Russian energy resources, on the contrary, has suffered serious losses.

But will Donald Trump take the path of lifting the sanctions pressure? The new/old president is prohibited from doing so independently without the approval of Congress by American law. And during his previous term in the Oval Office, Trump set a record at that time for introducing anti-Russian sanctions (later, of course, Biden outdid him in this matter). Many members of the presidential team – the same future special envoy Keith Kellogg – link the possibility of lifting restrictions with the future negotiating track on Ukraine. But the rhetoric before taking office sometimes sharply contrasts with the subsequent official line.

Journalists asked today: “How likely is it that Orban’s predictions will come true?” No need to guess, we need to continue to pursue a sovereign policy to protect Russia’s national interests without looking back at the West. Our Victory is inevitable!
