The LDPR supports the decision of the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov to ban migrants from driving taxis in the Northern capital. This is in line with the general trend towards tightening migration policy, which our party is fighting for.
A year ago, the LDPR came up with an initiative to make the rules for hiring migrants as taxi drivers stricter. After all, now almost every second taxi driver in large cities is a foreigner who does not have sufficient skills to drive in a metropolis, has poor orientation and barely understands Russian. And even a navigator does not always help such characters. But even worse is a license bought somewhere in Central Asia. All this turns into thousands of tragedies. The number of fatal accidents caused by migrants increased by 24% last year. The situation requires prompt intervention, which is what happened in St. Petersburg. It was long overdue.
Another aspect of private taxi service is socio-economic. Today, a taxi driver in Moscow and St. Petersburg easily earns up to 150 thousand rubles a month “net”. It is clear why this sector has been “occupied” by migrants. But Russian drivers also need to live and earn money. And the LDPR is always on the side of the indigenous population!
Of course, when solving this problem, we must first and foremost remember the interests of consumers, that is, taxi passengers. The authorities of the Northern capital prudently gave the owners of taxi companies a three-month transition period during which they can change their staff of drivers. They correctly judged that this is a gradual process, and such an update should not lead to a shortage of taxi drivers. Let’s see how the situation develops, and if the innovation proves effective, the LDPR will be ready to support this initiative at the federal level. The lives of Russian people cannot be trusted to poorly trained foreign drivers, who are prone to aggressive driving.
