This was discussed today at a meeting of the Expert Council under the Committee on International Affairs, with the participation of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
The assessments were harsh: the European “war party” is preparing society for a direct military confrontation with Russia. The demonization of our country’s image is growing, including through censorship, the brainwashing of the population, fake news, and the falsification of historical truth. Today’s schoolchildren in most European countries (particularly those in the former socialist bloc) are taught from textbooks that erase any mention of the USSR’s role in the defeat of Nazism. And its very manifestation in Ukraine is justified in the mainstream media and by statements by Russophobic politicians, allegedly as Kyiv’s choice of a “European destiny.” This is clearly how the coup d’état and the unleashing of a fratricidal civil war, supported by the collective West during the Obama-Biden era, are interpreted.
The EU leadership continues to dream of reintroducing “Biden narratives” to the Ukrainian peace agenda and is openly torpedoing the current US administration’s peace efforts. The European establishment continues to seek a strategic defeat for Russia, failing to understand the impasse and danger of its goal.
However, the potential destructive consequences of such a course of action are fully understood by sensible European politicians, including a number of members of the European Parliament. We continue our dialogue with them. In mid-December, I hope there will be an opportunity to meet again with a group of MEPs led by Fernand Kartheiser.
