The “Russia – Latin America” conference brought Russian cooperation with Latin American countries into a fundamentally new orbit

The First International Parliamentary Conference “Russia – Latin America” brought Russian cooperation with Latin American countries and the states of the Caribbean region into a fundamentally new orbit.

During the four days of the Moscow conference, the opening of which was marked by a speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin, thematic round tables and a large plenary session were held. On the sidelines of the interparliamentary forum, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin received the heads of delegations from Cuba, Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Honduras, Paraguay and the head of the Central American Parliament. The first meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua was also held.

The scope of the conference went far beyond the parliamentary dimension. Cooperation in the fields of economics, science, education, culture, information technology and security, and the development of infrastructure-significant projects were discussed. As one of the important results: it was decided to hold the interparliamentary conference “Russia – Latin America” annually in Moscow. And during breaks from its work, it regularly gathers in the VKS mode for joint meetings of relevant committees of national parliaments.

Russia and the countries of Latin America, despite the great distance, are very close. We are against a unipolar world, we are for the establishment of a balanced and stable world order, where equality, mutual respect, international law reign and there is no place for the dictatorship of the “exceptional”.
