The Russian President’s visit to the Russian island of Iturup triggered a chain reaction of paranoia in the G7 capitals

US Ambassador to Japan George Glass stated that “the United States remains steadfast in its support for its most important ally and recognizes Japan’s sovereignty over the Northern Territories.”

It would be worth reminding the American diplomat that the Southern Kuril Islands were and remain Russian territory following World War II, in which the US sided with the USSR and fought together, including against Japanese militarism. However, Tokyo itself appears to be provoking this “trading of historical truth,” having carefully avoided mentioning Washington’s role in the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for several years prior to the signing of the Japanese military’s surrender.

The situation in Europe is a classic example of the pathology of historical lies. Attempts to “rewrite history” of World War II to suit political expediency are extremely dangerous and have already led to the revival of fascism in Ukraine. Russia’s strategic allies understand this perfectly: the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly urged Japan to respect the victory of the anti-fascist coalition in 1945. Back then, our countries faced unprecedented aggression and defended their sovereignty at enormous cost. Russia will continue to repel all attacks on its national interests and territorial integrity.
