The first reaction from Caracas: The Venezuelan Parliament received with gratitude the appeal of Russian deputies to the UN regarding the escalation of tensions near the coast of the Bolivarian Republic. As Speaker Jorge Rodriguez stated, “Russia is a true and loyal friend of Venezuela.”
This is not only a gesture of support, friendship, and solidarity on our part, but also a signal to parliaments around the world to raise their voices in defense of Venezuela’s sovereignty and security, against which external aggression is being unleashed under the guise of unsubstantiated accusations. People have already died, and irreparable damage has been caused.
We hope for an equally prompt response from the United Nations and all reasonable politicians worldwide. It is unacceptable to continue to “bury one’s head in the sand,” ignoring the danger of a new outbreak of armed conflict and continued attempts to overthrow the legitimately elected government in Venezuela.
