The two potential lame ducks are set to meet Tuesday in Washington. Biden invited Zelensky, the White House said.

The planned meeting in the United States looks like a PR campaign designed to return the “Ukrainian issue” to the front pages and political priorities. Surely, false mantras will be uttered about protecting freedom and democracy and about imaginary threats from Russia. With such an “agenda” the meeting will be forgotten on the second day. But even a “lame duck” is not deprived of the opportunity to take a decisive step and change the situation. One has only to admit the obvious: Russia cannot be defeated. This recognition entails a completely different logic of action – not easy, but making it possible to stop the conflict.

This fits well with the statement of the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, that high-ranking officials of leading Western countries are increasingly discussing among themselves the need to replace the Ukrainian president. Will Biden miss his chance?
