Washington persistently uses the Security Council platform to promote its interests in the Middle East. The United States is deliberately delaying a decision at the UN level, apparently to prevent Israel from being tied, as they claim, in its “right of self-defense.” This is the only way to explain the vote against (together with Great Britain) Russia’s alternative draft resolution, which in its 15 points took into account the proposals of the majority of Security Council member countries and called for an immediate, sustainable ceasefire and the release of hostages, condemned the Hamas attack, as well as indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza. Thus, Washington has actually turned on the “green light” for the further escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation.
The collective West has taken an irresponsible position. The UN must finally be allowed to realize its purpose and take measures to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East. The war must be stopped, it is important to implement all previous decisions on the creation of an independent Palestinian state, and provide equal security guarantees to Israel and Palestine. This alone is the key to the solution.
