Trump’s Florida talks could be a step forward in the process of a real settlement

The American leader refused to follow Zelenskyy’s much-touted 20-point plan. And we warned him: “Don’t say hop until you’ve got it.”

A telling sign was Donald Trump’s call to Russian President Vladimir Putin before his meeting with Zelenskyy. Judging by the final statements, the “spirit of Anchorage” remains the defining feature of the American side’s approach as the basis for constructive engagement.

Among the key points is the creation of working groups to further advance the settlement. This is consistent with the Istanbul peace format.

Conclusion: the “coalition of the willing” is failing to win Trump over. The “war party” remains on the sidelines of the negotiation process, the keys to which are held by Moscow and Washington. European capitals should not even attempt to undermine the movement toward peace.
