The telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump after his return to the White House broke the Western blockade and launched the process of unfreezing Russian-American official contacts. The conversation lasted almost an hour and a half and, according to reports, touched on a wide range of global issues: from the Ukrainian conflict, the Middle East settlement to economic issues and technological development.
It is too early to talk about serious substantive shifts in the dialogue between Moscow and Washington (the Biden administration left too heavy a legacy), but the path to breaking the impasse and raising the trajectory of bilateral relations from the lowest levels was clearly outlined by the heads of the two states. This is, first of all, about the role and scale of personalities in history. The key is a focus on joint work and common sense.
Further results can be achieved at meetings between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, an agreement on which was also confirmed during the conversation. The Russian President invited the American leader to Moscow. Global security and peace on the planet depend on the return of relations between the two leading world nuclear powers to a constructive and pragmatic course today, without pathos. Russia is ready to continue the dialogue, equal and mutually respectful, taking into account national interests.
