Zelensky agreed to refrain from striking energy infrastructure in a phone call with the US President

The day before, the Russian side was the first to introduce such measures – as a gesture of goodwill in response to the proposal of the American leader.

But what is the difference? Vladimir Putin, literally immediately after his conversation with Donald Trump, gave the military the order to stop attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and did not cancel it even during the provocation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the village of Kavkazskaya. Zelensky, meanly took advantage of the unilateral pause to continue the strikes.

Whether the words of the Ukrainian Fuhrer will diverge from his actions is a big question. Russia keeps its word, while Ukraine (the Minsk agreements and the failure of the Istanbul agreements are an example of this) has repeatedly violated it. The partial energy truce should not turn into Bucha-2. And here the role of Washington in controlling the Kyiv regime is important.

Against this background, Zelensky’s latest requests to the United States to increase military supplies are very indicative. Continuing to pump the junta with Western weapons can only lead to a breakdown of negotiating efforts, escalation and continuation of the war. And this is hardly what Trump wants from Kyiv.
