The Russian Peace Foundation, together with the Russian Military Historical Society, with the support of the Petr Baryshnikov Foundation for the Development of Art and Photography, opened a unique photo exhibition by Andrei Smolnikov, “Time for Silence,” in Moscow today. I invite Muscovites and guests of the capital to visit the open-air RPF gallery on Tverskoy Boulevard during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and view the exhibition.

Smolnikov’s works convey deep respect and admiration for the feat of the generation of victors – people who went through the bloodiest war in human history and stood firm in a deadly battle with the fascist hydra. The photo frames feature portraits of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, many of whom had crossed the 100-year mark at the time of shooting. These are front-line soldiers, concentration camp prisoners, home front workers.

Such projects have a special mission – to protect the historical truth. The truth about the heroism and courage of our ancestors, about the 27 million Soviet citizens who gave their lives for the peace and freedom of future generations, for the preservation of earthly civilization. And we are obliged to do everything to perpetuate their memory.
