Today we celebrate an important and touching date – the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad

This day reminds us that our people were able to overcome difficulties and survive in the most difficult conditions.

During the Great Patriotic War, Leningrad was besieged by the Nazi army. The residents of the city did not give up and continued to fight for their homeland, enduring hunger, cold and bombing, showing the world their indestructible will to Victory. Thousands of examples of heroism and resilience remain forever in the history of the country.

Today we honor the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of our Motherland. We thank everyone who survived those terrible conditions and continued to fight to the end. Hitler’s hordes could not do anything with the Leningraders, who were dying but did not surrender.

80 years of complete lifting of the blockade. 80 years of incredible human feats that we were all raised on. The kingdom of heaven and eternal memory to those who gave their lives back then, but did not give up. And I want to appeal to the living. You are our pride, live long!

Leningrad did not surrender, just as the residents of Donbass did not surrender for many years. We survived then and will survive now in a new battle with Nazism that has raised its head.

Let this day remind us that we can overcome any difficulties if we are united and strong.
