Leonid Slutsky: “The resolution of the European Parliament on the situation around the alleged poisoning of Alexei Navalny is a direct and gross interference in the internal affairs of our country”

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs:

“The resolution of the European Parliament on the situation around the alleged poisoning of Alexei Navalny, in which between the lines it is proposed to adopt a“ strategy of democratization ”of Russia with a demand to cancel the amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, is a direct and gross interference in the internal affairs of our country.

MEPs, in fact, confirmed the provocative nature of all events around the patient of the Charite clinic. This whole spectacle was unleashed in order to further contain Russia, primarily in the economic plane, as well as to try to influence the foreign policy course again. This is not about protecting human rights or democracy, all this is to maintain a high degree of anti-Russian hysteria, including with regard to the Nord Stream 2 project. Calls for tougher sanctions and an independent investigation (despite the fact that no one is going to provide Russia with answers to all the questions asked about Navalny) are aimed solely at increasing Russophobia in order to advance someone’s selfish interests.

Resolutions of the European Parliament are advisory in nature and are not binding. There is a small hope that sane politicians who make key decisions in the EU states will stay away from politicized and obviously untrue assessments of European deputies.”
